The Criminal Law Chapter of the Asian Law School Association (ALSA) proudly announces its next meetings and invites academics and emerging scholars from ALSA member institutions and other relevant organisations to participate.
For 2024-2025, the ALSA Criminal Law Chapter will be focusing on the topic of “Criminal law reform: then and now”, examining the origins and colonial influence of criminal law in the Asia Pacific and the principal present-day criminal law reform issues under consideration by governments in the region.
On 9 and 10 June 2025, the Chapter will hold a two-day symposium on this topic and invites presentations and contributions from legal academics, postgraduate students, and other experts working on criminal law history and criminal law reform, including substantive criminal law, criminal procedure, and criminology. The symposium will be held at Thammasat University Faculty of Law in Bangkok Thailand. The co-chairs of the Criminal Law Chapter, Professors Mrinal Satish and Andreas Schloenhardt express their sincere thanks to Professors Amnart Tangkiriphimarn and Ronnakorn Bunmee for once again kindly offering to host the meeting of the group.
A registration website along a with call for presentations and further details about the symposium will be available from about March 2025 and ALSA members will receive further information at that time.
On 2 December 2024 between 3 and 4pm Singapore time, the Chapter will hold an online meeting to further plan the structure, content, and speakers of the June 2025 symposium. We invite all existing members of the Group, staff, and postgraduate students from ALSA member institutions, and others with an interest in contributing to the June 2025 symposium to join this short meeting.
