Asian Law Schools Association (ALSA) Public Law Conference 2027

Jindal Global Law School and the Centre for Asian Legal Studies at the Faculty of Law, National University of Singapore are pleased to co-host the second Asian Law Schools Association (ALSA) Public Law Conference. The conference will be held on 26-27 February 2027 at the O.P. Jindal Global University campus in Sonipat, Haryana, India.
ALSA was established in September 2020 as a network of law schools to develop excellence in legal education and scholarship, along with core values, including academic freedom, the rule of law, diversity, fairness, and justice. This conference seeks to bring together legal scholars, practitioners, experts, and students to discuss the latest research, developments, and challenges in the field of public law in Asia. We invite submissions for papers on any public law topics, including but not limited to constitutional law, administrative law, criminal law, law and religion, law and governance, tax law, etc.
The theme for this year’s conference is ‘Constitutionalism in Asia’. We invite research that critically engages with substantive and methodological challenges specific to the region. To foster collaboration and dialogue among scholars, we welcome both cross-jurisdictional comparative analyses and in-depth, jurisdiction-specific research. Substantively, papers may explore the diverse constitutional trajectories of Asian states across various political, economic, and cultural contexts. Methodologically, we encourage critical reflection on how Asian constitutional law is studied, researched, and taught, including efforts to challenge traditional approaches within the broader comparative field. By bridging substantive inquiry and methodological reflection, this theme aims to cultivate a richer, more comprehensive understanding of constitutional theory and practice across Asia.
While we encourage submissions that engage directly with this theme, we also welcome papers exploring any aspect of Asian constitutional law and constitutionalism including, but not limited to, the following themes:
- Courts, judicial power, and constitutional adjudication;
- Rights, equality, and social transformation;
- Constitutional design, state formation, and constitutional transitions;
- Religion, culture, and constitutional identity;
- Constitutionalism, development, and the regulatory state;
- Constitutionalism, democratic resilience and backsliding;
- Fourth branch institutions and constitutional governance;
- Studying constitutionalism in Asia: methods, concepts, and pedagogy; and
- Technology, digital governance, and constitutional rights.
Submission Guidelines:
Please submit the following information here:
- Name, affiliation and contact details of all presenters and co-presenters;
- A short biography of no more than 150 words;
- The title of the paper or presentation; and
- An abstract of no more than 300 words outlining your proposed paper or presentation.
Deadlines:
Submission deadline is 2359H (Singapore Time, GMT +8) on 15 September 2026. Participants will be notified of the outcome of their submission by 15 October 2026. A working paper of at least 5,000 words (excluding footnotes) should be submitted one month prior to the conference, on 15 January 2027.
Financial Information:
Attendees will be provided with food and accommodation at Jindal Global Law School for the duration of the conference but are responsible for their own travel and other financial needs. There is no conference fee.
